Bonding is a dental cosmetic procedure that is be used to restore or improve chipped, misarranged or discoloured teeth. The procedure is generally used as an alternative to traditional veneers.
How does bonding work?
The tooth to be restored is prepared by applying the bonding liquid, after etching the surface of the tooth. Once the bonding material dries and sets, a plastic raisin is applied on top of it and is modeled into a shape that is desirable or natural. After the resin dries and sets too, it is chiseled, tapered and smoothed to give a natural look and feel.
The entire process of bonding can be completed in just one visit to the dentist and can improve the appearance of the teeth significantly. The resin, however, is not nearly as strong as the natural teeth and is more susceptible to breakages and stains as compared to the natural teeth. The patients are recommended to undergo the procedure every 3 to 5 years for repairing the damaged resin.
