Dental Implants

Permanent solution for tooth loss

Dental implants represent a common procedure of permanently replacing missing teeth without affecting neighboring teeth.

With the help of dental implants, we can fully remedy toothlessness and thus strongly improve chewing and speaking abilities as well as restore a beautiful smile. Implants can also serve as carriers of a fixed dental bridge or denture.

Over the past two to three decades, dental implants have changed the face of aesthetic or cosmetic dentistry and are now considered as the best solution for replacing damaged or missing teeth.  These prosthetics feel, function, and look like your natural teeth and can even be color-matched to resemble them.  Furthermore, dental implants enable the patient to eat just about anything they choose and smile again without being embarrassed about their teeth.  Most importantly, they will restore your self-confidence and self-esteem.

The implant is actually a small, titanium post or screw that serves as the tooth’s root.  The artificial tooth or crown is attached to the post or screw in order to complete the procedure.  This will help to preserve the contour of your face and prevent further recession of the jawbone.  For all intents and purposes, dental implants will allow you to enjoy your life again.  They can improve your quality of life as they enable you to eat, laugh, and speak with total confidence and without discomfort.

The metal post or screw is surgically implanted into your jawbone. The posts that are attached will be visible as they protrude through the gums until the artificial tooth or crown is attached to them. Dental implants typically involve two separate procedures. The first involves placing the implant into the jawbone. For up to the next 6 months (sometimes less), the implants will be bonding to your jawbone beneath the gum’s surface. Our dentist may have you wear dentures during this time and have you follow a soft food diet until it is time to place the crown.

The second phase starts once the implant has bonded with your jawbone. Your dentist will have taken an impression in order to design the crown, bridgework, or denture. When the oral surgeon uncovers the implant so it protrudes through the gum, a healing collar will be attached. Once the artificial teeth have been made according to the impressions that were taken, they will be attached to the implant. Although the entire procedure could take anywhere from 6 months to a year, most patients do not feel that their lives have been disrupted in the process.
